2012 US Military Pay Charts

On February 14, 2011, President Obama proposed a minimum of a 1.6% military pay raise in his "Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year 2012." His proposal is based on the on the wage and salary series for private industry workers as indicated in the Employment Cost Index that was released on the last business day in October 2010. Some in congress are rumbling about a freeze of military pay to the 2011 levels; doing so means that some of the ground that was retaken over the last 10 years to close the pay gap will be lost. The pay scales below reflect the 1.6% raise.

Magpul FMG-9

The Magpul FMG-9 is a new generation of folding submachine guns, designed by Magpul Industries in 2008. It looks like an industrial torch or a portable radio, and will fit in a girl’s handbag or the back pocket of a pair of jeans. One click later, the spring-assisted deployment mechanism snaps and you have a sub machine gun ready to fire. It is made out of a light-weight polymer material rather than metal, making it very light and easy to carry. It is also small enough even to fit in the back pocket of most everyday pants. It was developed for potential use by personal protection details such as the United States Secret Service. It is still a prototype and may or may not be made in large numbers for law enforcement agencies. The prototype uses a semi-automatic firing mechanism from a 9mm Glock 17 pistol. With modification, the FMG-9 could also use the mechanism of a Glock 18 machine pistol for Class 3 or law enforcement use.

PPSh-41 Submachine Gun

The PPSh-41 was a Soviet submachine gun designed by Georgi S. Shpagin as an inexpensive, simplified alternative to the PPD-40. It was a short 33 inch (828mm) long blowback operated fully automatic submachine gun with a 10 inch (265mm) chrome lined barrel inside a wooden stock. Intended for use by minimally-trained conscript soldiers, the PPSh was a magazine-fed selective-fire submachine gun using an open-bolt, blowback action. It weighed 12 pounds (5.4 kg) when loaded with a 71-round drum magazine or about 9 1/2 pounds with the more reliable and preferred 35-round box magazine. It fired the same round as the Soviet Torkarev pistol, the 7.62x25mm cartridge. This bottlenecked cartridge was significantly more powerful than the 9x19mm Parabellum round used by German and Allied armies for submachine guns. The 7.62x25mm carried a 85grain bullet that came from the barrel at a scorching 1500 feet per second. In a pinch it could also fire the same 7.63x25mm round as the Broomhandle Mauser. Its rate of fire was a super fast 900 round per minute. This pistol sized round and the weight of the weapon allowed for practically no felt recoil when compared to other weapons.

The cosmetic differences are very slight and hard to see between this gun and the newer 92FS. Most of the changes are the inner workings of the gun.

Aurora’s Excalibur Unmanned Aircraft

The Aurora’s Excalibur Unmanned Aircraft was flight successful for the first time on 2009. The Excalibur vertical take off and landing (VTOL) UAS was developed under a contract with the US Armys Aviation Technology Directorate and flight tested at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland on June 24, 2009. Excalibur's unique configuration enables both VTOL and high-speed flight modes at speeds up to 400 knots; thereby providing the Warfighter with a survivable capability for quick response weapons delivery or logistics resupply from remote, austere forward operating bases or from air cable ships operating in the littorals.
